CALLIGRAPHY AND “THE WRITING Allah Calligraphy Arabic’’
DO YOU PRACTICE CALLIGRAPHY?
No! I do not claim to practice this type of calligraphy Objectivity
is irrelevant. On the contrary, subjectivity is pushed to the point of being a
principle of communication between the viewer and the object of his admiration;
We thus achieve a real poetic knowledge of the tree and the landscape.
WHAT IS THE PLACE OF THIS APPROACH IN YOUR
WORK?
With children, working on their breath is also essential.
It allows them to grasp the principle of the artistic process. They inhale by
taking ink and closing their eyes to better immerse themselves in the subject.
By this I mean feel the tree they have in mind. This tree is huge, strong, of
an immeasurable density, they must experience it in their body. Then they open
their eyes facing the paper on which they will express (draw) their feelings to
the rhythm of their exhalation.
WHAT AGES DO YOU WORK WITH CHILDREN?
I have the chance to be presented, for the second
consecutive year. This year I will continue the “Traces Signs and Tags”
experience with 23 classes for a dozen schools. This is a program during which,
in addition to an approach to classical calligraphy, we practice with children
aged 5 to 11 the gestural writing of the landscape by working on the breath, on
concentration, on perceptions, and on the presence of the other.
WHAT IS THE PLACE OF TREES AND LANDSCAPES IN
YOUR ARTISTIC WORK?
I think I started experimenting with work on the tree (in
relation to the breath) with my students as part of the Mosque d'Espalion
association about fifteen years ago. It was only 10 years later, in 2016 for
the “Internal Landscapes” exhibition, that my first works on this theme emerged
under the title “resilience”. Then the writing of landscape develops in 2018
through the exhibition “Poésie d’Aubrac”. But I have not finished experimenting
because my teaching work nourishes me enormously and I have the project of a
next exhibition exclusively dedicated to “the tree and its wood”.
DOES THE TREE FASCINATE YOU TO THIS POINT?
I'm not the only one! Many artists are too. And more
generally, a good number of people who have kept a few bits of their child's
soul would be ready to worship the Tree. Because in addition to the undeniable
graphic interest it represents, the tree remains the major symbol concerning
the mystery of an energy relationship between heaven and earth. It is also
deeply representative of rooting (as an image of the lung) and inspiration (by
its branches which will capture solar energy). The tree is a deeply spiritual
subject. Although a particularly opaque and dense object, the tree never ceases
to speak to us of light of wisdom.
