Line art: Elegance in a single line

Minimalism is very trendy right now. This is what led to the success of line art, this style of drawing that uses only lines and most often even a single continuous line, to form a silhouette, a face, or any other shape. It is also called: “one line drawing”. Drawing in one continuous line is an art just like any other drawing or painting trend. This way of drawing pleases, not for its easy realization (and you will see in practice that it is not at all easy to execute), but rather for its clean and soft style.

Google is honoring Sadequain Naqqash, the World-Renowned Calligrapher & Painter from Pakistan. Born in 1923 in Amroha, British India, Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi was a world-renowned Calligraphy Courses In Pakistan best known for his skills as a calligrapher and a painter.

History of line art

As its name suggests, line art designates a style of drawing that uses only lines to achieve all the shapes that the artist wishes to draw. It was the creative start-ups that started this trend, when they chose logos made in this style. However, the appearance of drawings made with strokes dates back to a distant time. Indeed, if you look closely, the first drawings found on the walls of caves were made with lines.

But that goes way too far. We can, on the other hand, cite the great Pablo Picasso, who, at the beginning of the 20th century, deconstructed a complex work to keep only a few features. In this way, he simplified the world. However, that doesn't mean line art is easy to do. It is even quite the opposite, because it is not at all easy to bring out the essence of the subject with just a few strokes or just a single line.

The different forms of line art

Above, we have already mentioned the line art of Keith Haring, based on multiple lines. These are rather thick, but nevertheless reflect the artist's desire to simplify his world. Note that Keith Haring is the one who introduced street art to museums and art galleries.

The “one line drawing”, on the other hand, is generally made with a very fine line. With this technique, one can draw a human face, a silhouette, animals, objects... The drawings can be made in the simplest possible way, without embellishment, or contain details, but taking care, as much as possible, to what the line does not break. This is the trend of the moment. We find them, currently, in the form of pencil drawing, painting or even embroidery.

How to use line art?

The trend has no limit! It starts in one area and expands into others. If these are the digital start-ups that adopted line art first, currently, it is found almost everywhere.

In the logos

No more logos with two or three colors, with well-researched shapes. We now opt for the abstract, soft and evocative style of line art. Logos drawn with a single continuous line bring a touch of modernity that appeals to young business creators.

In the decor

Well-colored paintings, charcoal portraits, watercolor landscapes are, of course, timeless works. However, if you like minimalist interior design, nothing beats a frame with a black and white design, formed with a single continuous line. Simple, but effective!

In the patterns

T-shirts, bags, cushions... are also adorned with this design style, which is both simplistic and very stylish. This is also the case for packaging and business cards, especially if the value conveyed is ecology, Zen attitude and authenticity.

Make a “one line drawing”

As we have already said above, performing one line drawing is not as easy as it seems. Thus, it takes real drawing talent to bring out a form from a single line. However, if you want to make a decoration in line art, here is a tip that you can apply. With this method, you have the possibility of deconstructing your favorite photo and turning it into line art, just like a pro!
